An Orland Park man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught on tape behaving indecently in front of a group of young girls in Harvey.

Guas Sweiss, 34, of the 11000 block of West 167th Place, was charged with felony indecency.

Sweiss parked his SUV in an alley behind the 15000 block of South Loomis Tuesday morning and approached a group of girls in a backyard, authorities said.

He allegedly then began to masturbate behind bushes along the fence, at which point the girls ran inside the house, police said.

A quick-thinking neighbor captured the incident on a camera phone and called the police, authorities said. Police were eventually able to get the man’s license plate from the video to track him down to his home on Thursday.

When police arrived, his mother said he wasn’t there, Harvey Police Department spokesman Sean Howard said.

Sweiss’ attorney called the police three hours later and agreed Sweiss would turn himself in by noon Friday, Howard said, but that didn’t happen, and police arrested him late Friday.

Harvey city officials had warned residents several days before the incident to watch for acts of indecent exposure, Howard said. They had unconfirmed reports of indecent exposure incidents but had not arrested anyone.

“That was the key to the this whole thing. The neighbors were on the lookout,” he said.

Harvey police have gotten at least three calls of interest from other south suburban police departments regarding the incident, Howard said.
