Milestone for Avs’ Briere

Daniel Briere scored his 300th career goal on a rebound with four- tenths of a second left in regulation to lift the visiting Colorado Avalanche to a 2- 1 victory Monday against the Boston Bruins.

Carolina Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said captain Eric Staal will miss the team’s game Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres with an upper- body injury. Staal has missed only 17 games during his 10- year career.
