Teuvo doing his best to remain in lineup
RALEIGH, N. C.— Teuvo Teravainen is taking nothing for granted. After twice being assigned to Rockford this season and three times being a healthy scratch, Teravainen still comes to the rink every day wondering whether he’s going to be in the lineup.
‘‘ Of course, I am,’’ he said with a laugh. ‘‘ You never know if I’m playing or not. I just have to play my best game every game so I get a new chance.’’
But Teravainen seems very much entrenched in the lineup these days, logging an average of nearly 16 minutes in the Blackhawks’ last seven games and working on the second power- play unit. He doesn’t have a point in his last four games, but he doesn’t appear to be in any danger of losing his spot in the lineup anymore.
Teravainen said he’s having no trouble adjusting to the playoff- push intensity and defensive style of late-March games. But coach Joel Quenneville said Teravainen can be better. After the Hawks’ 4- 0 loss Saturday to the Dallas Stars, everybody on the team can.
‘‘ Every game, he’s got to keep pushing to try to get better and try to get quicker,’’ Quenneville said.
Fitting in
After another scoreless game Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes, center Antoine Vermette has no goals and two assists in nine games since being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes. He swapped spots with captain Jonathan Toews against the Hurricanes, centering Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa.
‘‘ In the middle, it’s an ongoing challenge knowing that there’s a lot of responsibility from our centermen,’’ Quenneville said. ‘‘[ He’s] coming from a different way of playing [ to] being defensively minded in our own end and above the puck. Offensively, there’s a lot of freedom and creativity there. Just getting a little accustomed more with the way we play. . . . We’re looking for progress.’’
Super Sunday
The Hawks’ game April 5 against the St. Louis Blues at the United Center— a game that might play a huge role in the division race— will be played at 6: 30 p. m. on NBC Sports Network. The Hawks will be going up against the Cubs’ season opener against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.
Roster report
Daniel Carcillo, Andrew Desjardins and David Rundblad once again were healthy scratches for the Hawks.
