Tannehill regrets dissing Dolphins practice squad
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill said he became frustrated during a recent practice and regrets that he disparaged two teammates.
Annoyed that defensive players were practicing aggressively during a workout that’s typically low-key the day before a game, Tannehill sarcastically told two players they would receive a “scout-team trophy.” Neither player is a starter.
The incident occurred Saturday in London, one day before the Dolphins’ loss there to the New York Jets. Reports of the episode created a buzz on the Internet.
“I hold myself to a higher standard than to take a shot like that,” Tannehill said Wednesday. “I’ve talked to those guys and cleared the air with them, and we’re moving forward. This is behind us.”
Tannehill said he was unhappy during the practice because he felt the tone made it harder for the offense to accomplish its work.
More international games added
NFL owners approved more international games through 2025, including ones in places other than England — possibly Mexico, Germany and Canada.
“We think it’s time to expand our international series to other countries and respond to the growing interest in our game not only in the U.K., but elsewhere around the world,” commissioner Roger Goodell said.
The NFL will announce the 2016 international games this fall.
Colts re-sign backup QB
The Colts re-signed quarterback Josh Johnson as Andrew Luck recovers from an injured right shoulder.
Indianapolis originally signed Johnson on Friday, then released him Monday. With Luck still lim- ited in practice and backup Matt Hasselbeck sitting out Tuesday because of illness, the Colts (2-2) brought back Johnson in time for Thursday night’s game at Houston (1-3).
