Gutekanst, William P.

91, of Winnetka, IL died on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, surrounded by family members at Evanston Hospital.

Bill was the devoted husband of the late Betty Gutekanst; he was the loving father of Paul (Ronnie), Joseph (Martha Hoza) Anne (David) Riguzzi, Stephen (Lynn), Tricia (John) Donahue, Edward, Daniel (Karen), Mary Jean (Ron) Johnson, Vincent (Gail), and Sheila Simkin. Bill was the affectionate grandfather of 21 grandchildren, Stephen, Sean, Christine, Andrew, Alicia, Emily, Flannery, Maeve, Caelinn, Addie, Elyse, Claire, Nora, Luke, Abby, Dylan, Carly, Maggie, Jack, Matthew, and William Finley; he was the attentive great-grandfather of Gannon, Steven, Genevieve, and Holden. He leaves his sister and two brothers, Marguerite, Chris and Tom Gutekanst.

Bill was a respected electrical contracting executive, having worked with Fishbach & Moore, Inc. for 35 years and later worked as the electrical inspector for the Village of Winnetka in retirement. He served with the Army during World War II, receiving three battle stars for his tour of duty throughout the South Pacific. Bill and his late wife Betty were active parishioners in the Sts. Faith, Hope, and Charity community. He served on the Board of Directors at Regina Dominican High School for many years.

Bill and his family traveled frequently to Wisconsin where the family spent time at their cottage, Fernwood.

Visitation will be Friday, October 9, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, IL 60077. Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Faith, Hope & Charity Church, 191 Linden Street, Winnetka, IL 60093. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
