Simeon is 5- 2 and picking up momentum heading into the stretch run of the regular season. A key member of the team, senior linebacker Antonio Crosby, recently picked up an offer from Valparaiso— his first scholarship offer.

‘‘ It feels like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders,’’ Crosby said. ‘‘ I have been praying for this for so long. I felt down by not getting interest, and then, within a day, I got my first offer. It was a great feeling.’’

Crosby got some good feedback about what to focus on and what he can improve.

‘‘ They said they had seen my film and knew that I was progressing to be a Division I athlete,’’ Crosby said. ‘‘ They loved how I played and said they will follow up with us often.’’

Phillips’ Fox on the radar

Phillips linebacker and defensive lineman Malcolm Fox is one of the highest rated players in the junior class and has drawn a lot of interest from colleges recently.

‘‘ Purdue has emerged as the most interested right now,’’ Fox said. ‘‘ I’ve been hearing a lot from Columbia, and Cornell has been showing interest. I’ve also received a lot of mail from Illinois.’’

Fox transferred to Phillips before the season and has adjusted well. TheWildcats are undefeated.

‘‘ I’ve really been bonding with my new team, and it’s been a great transition,’’ Fox said. ‘‘ Just the caring that the coaches have shown makes me not feel like a transfer. And they don’t treatme like one. It’s all one big family, and I love that.’’

Fox is looking forward to a visit to Purdue for the game against Illinois on Nov. 7.

“I want to major in engineering, and Purdue’s engineering school is one of the top in the country, so that’s pretty exciting,’’ Fox said. ‘‘ Other than that, I am excited to see the school for the first time.’’

Still undecided

There are only a handful of top uncommitted seniors left on the recruiting board. Lake Forest Academy defensive lineman Thomas Schaffer has offers from around the country but will take official visits to Stanford, Wisconsin and Oregon. Phillips defensive lineman Amir Watts was once committed to Western Michigan but is now uncommitted.

Homewood- Flossmoor offensive lineman Desmond Bland has interest from Indiana and Missouri, among others.
