(April 11, 1939 - October 14, 2015) Passed away Wednesday after a valiant battle with cancer. Marjorie, daughter of Marjorie and Augustine Patros, was born into an Italian community in Girard, Ohio. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Northweste­rn in 1961 with a B.A. in French, having spent a junior year abroad at the Sorbonne. She wed Edwin Barry Silverman of Chicago, with whom she enjoyed 53 years of marriage and two children, Alexei and Maria. Marjorie was a hotel concierge for 25 years. She was a founding member of the Chicago Hotel Concierge Associatio­n and Les Clefs d’Or USA, and was the first woman and first American to serve as President of Les Clefs d’Or Internatio­nal, a concierge organizati­on in over 50 countries. After her retirement in 2004, she continued to work as a lecturer, meeting planner, and consultant. Marjorie was a renowned gardener, a voracious reader of everything from novels to The New Yorker, a collector of antiques, an incredible cook, lifelong Democrat and a world traveler. Her beautiful home was a tribute to her taste and creativity. She is remembered by her husband, Edwin; son, Alexei; daughter, Maria; sonin-law, Bill; and grandson, Nathaniel; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, Lincoln Park neighbors and her Clefs d’Or family.

A service will be held 12:00 noon on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Chicago Jewish Funerals , 8851 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, IL ( www.cjfinfo.com). Interment 1:30 p.m. at Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 W. Montrose Ave., Norridge, IL. Visitation to follow at the family’s home. Shiva will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjorie’s memory to Les Clefs d’Or USA (www.lcdusa.org).
