Newborn found abandoned

A newborn girl was found abandoned early Tuesday in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.

The infant was discovered about 3 a.m. on the stairs of a building in the 1100 block of North Oakley, according to Chicago Police.

She was wrapped in blankets with her umbilical cord still attached, Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder said.

The girl was taken in good condition to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, authorities said. Police said the girl did not appear to have any injuries.
