Police: Pair tried to lure girls to SUV outside high school

3 Police are searching for two people who tried to lure two girls to an SUV parked outside a Belmont Cragin neighborho­od high school last week on the Northwest Side.

About 5 p. m. Feb. 8, the girls were walking eastbound in the 6300 block of West Barry Avenue when they saw a clean, white four- door SUV parked in front of Steinmetz College Prep, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

As the girls walked past the vehicle, the passenger said, “Do you need a ride?” The girls continued to walk northbound on Mobile Avenue towards Belmont, police said. The driver then asked, “Do you want to make some money?” The girls ran away and immediatel­y reported the incident to their parents, police said. The vehicle sped away eastbound on Barry.

The driver is described as a white man, between 30 and 35 years old, wearing a blue baseball cap, police said. A descriptio­n of the passenger was not available, and the make and model of the SUV are unknown.
