Meat packing plant employees just received an unsolicited 6 percent wage icrease. The pay increase affects about 25,000 hourly workers at at least four major packing plants. Those plants are Armour& Co., Swift & Co., Morris& Co. and Sulzberger& Sons. The raise means an increase of from 60 cents to a dollar per week for each worker.
Archbishop Mundelein has issued the rules for observing Lent in 1916. All days except Sundays are days of fasting for the faithful over the age of 21 who have not received special dispensation. Those fasting are limited to one full meal each day. Meat is forbidden onWednesdays and Fridays.
