Maine South prospect: ‘It was awesome’
Maine South offensive lineman Kevin Jarvis, a four-star recruit, will play at Michigan State.
“I would like to say thank you to all the schools that chose to recruit me,” Jarvis tweeted Thursday. “I’m proud to announce that I am officially committed to Michigan State University.”
The Spartans were one of Jarvis’ more recent offers. He visited the campus Tuesday.
“I was asked to call [MSU offensive line coach] Mark Staten,” Jarvis said. “After we chatted for a few minutes, he put [coach Mark Dantonio] on the phone, and he told me that they wanted to offer me a scholarship.”
It was a special moment for the 6-5, 315-pound prospect.
“I went crazy; it was awesome,” Jarvis said.
Jones adds Wyoming
Deerfield junior athlete Charlie Jones recently picked up an offer from Wyoming.
“I was ecstatic,” Jones said. “I was nervous I wouldn’t get an offer. I’m working hard, and it was just a great feeling. When the coaches at Wyoming talked to me, they wanted me to play receiver or corner, so basically like an athlete.”
This offseason, the 6-foot, 180-pound prospect has received interest from Western Michigan, Western Illinois, Central Michigan and Northwestern.
“I hope to have more coaches notice me this offseason and eventually get more offers,” Jones said. “Training-wise, I want to focus on speed and getting a little bigger and getting in the weight room every day.”
Jones also picked up offers from North Dakota State and Northern Illinois.
May is on the rise
Rich Central junior Caylon May, a defensive tackle, has picked up 11 scholarship offers.
The latest are from Northern Illinois, Illinois and Western Michigan.
“Recruiting has been going well so far; I started getting offered toward the end of winter, and they’ve just been coming in ever since,” May said.
The 6-3, 290-pounder has seen recruiting take off in the last of couple months.
“I’m just blessed and fortunate for everything,” May said.
“Some athletes don’t have any recruiters and are still waiting for a direct message or text, so I always keep that in mind when I get an offer.
‘‘I never take that for granted because I could be one of those athletes.”
He added, “My goals for the offseason are to get more explosive and get stronger.” May visited Illinois recently. “I really liked the field, the turf looked good, and we met with aca- demic staff and broke down how they take care of the football players,” May said.
“They make sure they’re on top of their grades, and everything there is beautiful.”
May also has received offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Illinois State and Miami (Ohio).
