Neuqua WR headed to Notre Dame

- BETH LONG

Neuqua Valley receiver Isaiah Robertson committed to Notre Dame weeks after receiving a scholarship offer from the school.

‘‘I believe now is the best time for my commitment,’’ Robertson, a 6-2, 185-pound junior, said on Twitter.

Robertson chose Notre Dame over Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota and Penn State, among others.

‘‘The recruiting process has been stressful, fun, exciting and, above all, a blessing,’’ Robertson said.

Katrenick to Bowling Green

The decision is in for Jacobs quarterback Chris Katrenick, who gave an oral commitment to Bowling Green.

‘‘I thought long and hard about this, and I decided that the offense, coaches, players, program and university itself were all a great fit for me,’’ Katrenick said. ‘‘I really believe I can be successful at Bowling Green and also think the degree will be well worth it.’’

Several things about the program impressed Katrenick, a 6-2, 195-pound junior.

‘‘I love the offense, coaches, players and academics,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s all a great fit for me. The staff seems to like me, and we are all fired up. I think the program is great, and the Bowling Green fans are awesome.’’

Katrenick has work to do this offseason as he looks toward his senior season.

‘‘I want to continue to grow as a leader, with strength and speed,’’ Katrenick said. ‘‘I am working on the offensive scheme and some checks and audibles we will have in place this year.’’

Awodiran drawing interest

Marist linebacker Micah Awodi- ran has scholarship offers from Illinois, Boston College, Central Michigan, Indiana and Minnesota, among others. The 6-1, 215-pound junior recently visited the Illini.

‘‘I will also visit Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Syracuse, Princeton and Arkansas, but I don’t have any lockdown dates,’’ Awodi- ran said. ‘‘I’m looking forward to seeing the coaching staffs and how they work.’’

Illinois’ new coaching staff, led by head coach Lovie Smith, has turned the heads of plenty of instate recruits.

‘‘[Linebackers] coach [Tim] McGarigle was one of the first coaches to take an interest in me when he was at Western Michigan, so that long-standing interest definitely means something, as well as the NFL experience coming in with coach Smith and [defensive coordinator Hardy] Nickerson,’’ Awodiran said.

Awodiran said he is excited about his senior season.

‘‘I am definitely looking to work on being a more dynamic linebacker, being able to be a force in the middle and out in space. Basically, being as effective as I can be in the run and pass game.’’
