Lions CB Slay gets $ 50 million

-

Cornerback Darius Slay signed a four- year, $ 50 million extension with the Lions. The 25- yearold cornerback was heading into the fourth and final season of his rookie contract, and now Detroit doesn’t have to worry about losing him to free agency in 2017.

“I know the organization, they love me. I love them,” Slay said. “They gave me a great opportunity. I put a lot of good tape on film. I was very important to the team, and I’m glad to still be here.”

Slay has played in 45 games and started 36. He has 149 tackles ( 119 solo) in his career with four interceptions and 35 passes defended.

Also for the Lions, linebacker DeAndre Levy was put on the nonfootball- injury list for undisclosed reasons.

Good news for Gase

Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan was reinstated by the NFL on a conditional basis after sitting out last season for his latest violation of the league’s substanceabuse policy.

The third overall selection in the 2013 draft, Jordan has played in only 26 games with one start, totaling 46 tackles and three sacks.

After the Dolphins’ first practice, first- year coach Adam Gase declined to say much about Jordan.

“We’re still at the beginning stages of this,” Gase said. “I know that’s the boring answer, but that’s what it is right now.”

Cowboys keeping McClain

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he won’t cut linebacker Rolando McClain, who hasn’t reported to training camp. He stayed away from the team most of the offseason and will be suspended for the first 10 games on a substanceabuse violation. The team also put second- year linebacker Damien Wilson on the non- football- injury list after he injured an eye in a paintball accident.

Vikings QB out

The Vikings put third- string quarterback Taylor Heinicke on the non- football- injury list. Heinicke has a cast on his left foot for a severed tendon in his ankle, a freak injury that occurred a few weeks ago. Shaun Hill and Joel Stave are the other backups to Teddy Bridgewater.

Elsewhere . . .

Chargers first- round pick Joey Bosa, a defensive end from Ohio State, remains unsigned and did not report to camp.

The Titans signed wide receiver Andre Johnson, a seventime Pro Bowl player in 12 seasons with the Texans before playing with the Colts last season.

Offensive tackle Jake Long, the top pick in the 2008 draft, remains a free agent after refusing to sign an injury waiver with the Ravens.

The Saints signed former Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Texans general manager Rick Smith got a four- year extension.
