Grand for touring
Exclusive, sexy and sporty BMW 6 Series gets a refresh for 2016
The BMW 6 Series is an excellent choice for those seeking an exclusive, luxurious, technology- laden, exhilarating grand touring coupe.
The 6 Series provides sexy, athletic exterior styling; a driverfocused, well- appointed, comfortable and tranquil cabin; and exciting powertrain combinations. It is an impressive touring coupe.
For 2016, the BMW 6 Series receives aminor refresh, enhanced features, newly available options and the addition of a new four- door Gran Coupe model.
New features include revised front and rear fascias, restyled kidneyshaped grilles with one less vertical bar, revised exterior mirrors, a standard sport exhaust system and an optional Black Accent package.
Now available in three body styles, the 2016 BMW 6 Series is offered as a two- door Coupe, open- air Convertible or new four- door Gran Coupe.
All three models offer a choice between two twin- turbocharged engines. 640i models are propelled by a 315- horsepower, 3.0- liter inline sixcylinder engine, while 650i models are motivated by a 445- horsepower, 4.4- literV- 8.
An eight- speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and launch control is standard in all three BMW 6 Series models.
Power is sent to the rear wheels, or all four wheels when opting for BMW’s renowned xDrive all- wheeldrive system.
Regardless of which 6 Series model you choose, a luxurious and sporty cabin awaits you. All three body styles provide excellent accommodations up front, but only the Gran Coupe provides adequate leg room for rear passengers.
The cabin is elegant and features fine materials and excellent craftsmanship. Sweeping surfaces with seamless connections provide the driver with a cockpit- like environment.
BMW6 Series buyers can specify either Dakota or Nappa leather, or they can opt for Full Merino leather. The 6 Series can be tailored to reflect its driver’s personality.
A newly available Black Accent package features Cognac/ Black bi- color Nappa leather interior and several other upgrades, including 20- inch bi- color wheels.
Standard infotainment features include digital instrumentation, a 10.2inch display controlled by BMW’s iDrive interface, touchpad controller or voice controls, and a nine- speaker audio system including a CD player and HD radio.
A 16- speaker Harman Kardon or high- end Bang & Olufsen surround sound system are available.
BMW vehicles are known for their performance, and the 640i provides pleasing power for accelerating from a stop and for overtaking. The 650i is for those who prefer more power.
Weighing in at around 4,200 pounds, the 6 Series is a heavy car. While the 6 Series is quite capable of getting up to speed quickly, it lacks the agility of its smaller siblings. The 6 Series’ strength is that it is an ultraluxurious and grand touring car.
If you are looking for even greater exclusivity, any of the three available 6 Series body styles can be had in M6 trim.
The BMWM6 delivers an extremely sporty flavor to the 6 Series line and features a 560- horsepower, M- version twin-turboV- 8 engine mated to either a seven- speed dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters or a six- speed manual with rev matching.
