Brother Rice has been unstoppable and has shown the ability to change a game in moments. With a quick- strike offense led by quarterback Dino Borelli, Illinois recruit Ricky Smalling and Aarian Lacy. Mount Carmel is coming off a last- second loss to St. Rita and needs two wins in its final four games to clinch a playoff berth.
No. 4 Neuqua Valley ( 5- 0) at No. 11NapervilleNorth ( 5- 0), 7: 30 p. m. Friday
The big question for the DuPage Valley is always who will stand out? This season, it’s undefeated Neuqua Valley and Naperville North. Naperville North’s staunch defense has been headed up by defensive back Grant Erickson, who has recorded four interceptions in the last two games. Neuqua Valley is headlined by Notre Dame recruit Isaiah Roberston and Navy recruit Owen Piche.
No. 9 GlenbardWest ( 4- 1) at No. 16Hinsdale Central ( 5- 0), noon Saturday
No. 5 Lyons snapped No. 9 GlenbardWest’s 32- game conference winning streak last week and the Hilltoppers will be looking to rebound against fellow West Suburban Silver opponent Hinsdale Central. The Red Devils have averaged more than 30 points, but GlenbardWest is their first ranked opponent. This game is an opportunity for each team to make a much- needed conference statement.
No. 8 Marist ( 4- 1) vs. St. Patrick ( 4- 1), 12: 30 p. m. Saturday at Hanson
Marist is riding a four- game winning streak since losing its opener to No. 3 Brother Rice. Marist’s senior class is highly talented, with linebacker Micah Awidoran ( Yale), defensive back Robert Topps ( Kansas) and offensive lineman Bill Kudak ( Kansas State). St. Patrick picked up its first loss last week against Notre Dame and is looking to rebound against its East Suburban Catholic foe.
Oswego ( 5- 0) at No. 18 Oswego East ( 5- 0), 7: 30 p. m. Friday
This rivalry game will determine who takes the lead in the Southwest Prairie. Ivory Kelly- Martin, who transferred from Nazareth to Oswego East, has been explosive all season and scored two touchdowns in a 21- 14 victory over Plainfield North last week. Oswego’s offense will be tested by the Wolves. The Panthers will look for a repeat of the highpowered offense that led them to last week’s 42- 22 win over Romeoville.
