Pack obtain RB Davis from Chiefs

-

The Green Bay Packers on Tuesday acquired running back Knile Davis from the Kansas City Chiefs for a conditional draft pick.

The Packers, who will play the Bears on Thursday at Lambeau Field, needed help at running back with Eddie Lacy nursing a bothersome left ankle and James Starks having had knee surgery Sunday.

Lacywas the Packers’ only active running back Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, rushing 17 times for 65 yards, but he reportedly will be out for several weeks with an injury that is more than just a sprained ankle.

Big Ben out against Patriots

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger might be a fast healer, but his left knee won’t be recovered in time for him to take the field Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin officially ruled out Roethlisberger for the showdown against the Patriots. He had arthroscopic surgery Monday to repair torn cartilage in his knee suffered Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Tomlin said Landry Jones will make his career third start for the Steelers in Roethlisberger’s place. He was 1- 1 as a starter last season.

JetsWRDecker has hip surgery

New York Jets receiver Eric Decker, who is already on seasonending injured reserve with a shoulder injury, had hip surgery.

The Jets said on their website the hip operation was deemed a necessity after Decker underwent an evaluation when he was put on IR last week with a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

After Decker is able to get off crutches, he will have surgery on his shoulder.
