Help might be needed along offensive line
The Bears’ injury report will remain under lock and key until Thursday. But right guard Kyle Long ( triceps strain) and left guard Josh Sitton ( right ankle) did not participate in the portion of practice that was open to the media Tuesday.
With the Bears playing Monday night against the visiting Vikings, coach John Fox doesn’t have to provide his first injury report until Thursday.
Still, center Cornelius Edison’s promotion to the 53- man roster from the practice squad suggests that help is needed for the interior of the offensive line.
Sitton didn’t play against the Packers on Thursday night and was in a walking boot. Long was removed in the second quarter and didn’t return.
“[ Messed] my arm up pretty good,” Long said after the game.
Eric Kush started in Sitton’s place in Green Bay, and Ted Larsen came in for Long. Rookie center Cody Whitehair was the starting left guard before Sitton was signed less than a week before the opener against the Texans.
Fox said that promoting Edison was a “depth- wise” move.
“We’ve got a couple nicks in the O- line,” Fox said.
Before Sitton was hurt late in the Bears’ loss against the Jaguars in Week 6, the offensive line had avoided the rash of injuries that plagued the team overall.
“We try to rotate guys around during the individual periods [ of practice] just in case something like that happens,” left tackle Charles Leno Jr. said. “[ Injuries are] part of the game like everybody says. It is what it is. You’ve got to go out there and perform.”
On the mend
Running back Jeremy Langford ( high ankle sprain) was on the field during the portion of practice open to the media.
It was the first time Langford practiced since injuring his ankle in Week 3 against the Cowboys. He has missed the last four games.
Receiver Eddie Royal ( toe) and defensive lineman Eddie Goldman ( high ankle sprain) were not on the field.
Secondary shuffle
The Bears waived second- year cornerback Jacoby Glenn and promoted defensive back DemontreHurst to the 53- man roster.
It’s been a hard fall for Glenn, who started the first three games opposite veteran Tracy Porter after having a solid preseason.
In seven games, Glenn had 26 tackles, one interception and six pass breakups. He spent most of last season on the practice squad after going undrafted out of Central Florida.
