Friendly bet for Wade, James

- BY JOE COWLEY Staff Reporter Email: jcowley@suntimes.com

Dwyane Wade insisted that he felt good about where he and his new Bulls teammates are, as they tipped off the 2016- 17 NBA regular season Thursday night at the United Center against the Boston Celtics.

Admittedly, he feels even better about his bet with friend and former Miami Heat teammate LeBron James.

James, who returned to his hometown of Cleveland two seasons ago, has been front and center in backing the Cleveland Indians in their World Series run, and Wade has done the same with the Cubs.

So before Game 1, Wade issued a bet on social media, with the loser having to wear the opposing team’s uniform to an NBA arena when the players meet.

With the series tied at 1, Wade was enjoying the possibility of soon seeing James crammed into a Cubs jersey.

“I feel very good about being 1- 1,’’ Wade said. “It was tough because we made the bet and [ the Indians] were up 1- 0 right away. But we’re in a good place now.’’

Wade also offered more details on the wager, including what the loser’s attire should be.

“It’s your job to get your own [ uniform],’’ Wade said. “But you have to come in looking like one of the [ base- ball] players for sure. I’m talking about glove, bat, whatever you decide. You have to come in with everything. It’s going to be cool.’’

If Wade should lose the bet, would he choose a customized Indians uniform or grab one from a Indians player?

“I haven’t thought about it because I don’t plan on losing,’’ Wade said. “We haven’t thought that far. And we got a little time before we play each other. It was just something friendly. We got two parts of that, one friendly one that we thought was cool and we got another one where we send each other certain cases of wine depending on who wins or loses. It’s just cool, just friendly banter back and forth and getting involved in the excitement that’s going on in both cities.’’
