Italy’s strongest quake in decades

A firefighte­r and an alpine soldier look at rubble in the town of Amatrice after amagnitude- 6.6 earthquake struck central Italy on Sunday. The quake, Italy’s strongest in decades, rocked the same area hit in August and a pair of aftershock­s lastweek, sending quake- damaged buildings crumbling. Nearly 8,000 people have been moved to shelters or hotels. Italy’s Civil Protection agencywas expecting that to reach 11,000 by Monday.
