Bolingbrook safety Bell in demand
As the playoffs heat up, so does recruiting for area prospects.
Big- bodied safety Zyon Bell ( 6- 3, 185 pounds) had a productive season for Bolingbrook.
‘‘ Recruiting is going well,’’ Bell said. ‘‘ I’ve been to visit the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois, Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State so far. Next week I’m visiting Northern Michigan. I’ll also visit the University of Indianapolis.’’
Bell learned several lessons about his game this season that he hopes will translate on film for recruiters to see.
‘‘ Hopefully the coaches can see my body of work in film so they can recognize that I’m an athlete that can be used all over the field defensively,’’ Bell said.
Bolingbrook finished 4- 5, but four of the losses were to Super 25 opponents.
‘‘ I learned that I can play at the highest level in this game because we played some of the best teams in the state,’’ Bell said.
Lewis has three offers
Two- sport standout Mitch Lewis of Naperville North is adding scholarship offers in football and also is drawing interest as a basketball player. As a tight end, the 6- 6, 220- pounder has received three offers.
‘‘ Recruiting is going really well,’’ Lewis said. ‘‘ I received my first football offer about twoweeks ago, and now I’mat three. I’mhoping to keep adding to that. South Dakota, Missouri State and Wyoming have offered.’’
Getting the first offer wasmemorable, Lewis said.
‘‘ It was really nice,’’ he said. ‘‘ It felt like some hard work paid off. Also, it was nice to getmy first one because it opens a lot of doors.’’
Tight end is a new position for Lewis, who played receiver until this season.
‘‘ I like playing tight end a lot,’’ Lewis said. ‘‘ I love to block, and then I also get to go out and catch passes. It took some time getting used to it and learning it.’’
Kokosioulis gaining momentum
Maine South running back Fotis Kokosioulis has been turning heads all season, extending his streak of games with at least one touchdown to 19. With that has come more recruiting interest.
‘‘ I can play with anybody,’’ said Kokosioulis, a 5- 9, 170- pound junior. ‘‘ Even though people question my size, I know I can succeed against any opponents. I’m an allaround back.’’
Kokosioulis is eyeing Penn, Indiana State, Princeton and Columbia for possible visits, and he’s getting interest from plenty of other schools, including Northern Illinois.
‘‘ I hope to get a lot more activity as time goes on,’’ Kokosioulis said. ‘‘ One of my dream schools is Northwestern. I’m happy to be getting some interest, but a little more would be great.’’
