CUTLER OUT FOR THE SEASON

Despite high hopes, Cutler went 51- 51 as Bears starter with one trip to playoffs in 8- season era that appears to be over

Former first- round pick Kyle Fuller practiced for the second straight day as he continues to recover from arthroscopic knee surgery. The Bears have a 21- day window, which started Wednesday, to add the cornerback to the 53man roster.

Once they put quarterback Jay Cutler on injured reserve, they’ll have that space.

The Bears were concerned that Fuller might be too sore to participate after Wednesday’s practice. He seems to have done well.

“Watching that live practice today, he looked good,” coach John Fox said. “So he’s had two back- toback good days, and we’ll continue to evaluate that the rest of the week.”

Fuller isn’t the only cornerback destined for an eventual return. Rookie Deiondre’ Hall, who came back to practice last week, was limited as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain.

“Much like Kyle — different scenario — but he’s moved around well and we’ll have some decisions to make about who will be active for the game,” Fox said. “In Kyle’s case, it’s a little bit different because we have to make the decision on the roster first.”

Slot opportunity

Eddie Royal missed practice for the second straight day because of a toe injury, opening up the possibility rookie Daniel Braverman could play the slot Sunday.

“He’s learning the details of a difficult position,” offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said.

“The nuances of coverages, you have to understand that because you’re defined as a slot player on production,” he said. “That’s it. You can be big, you can be small, you can be quick, you can be slow.

“But you’ve got to be able to move the chains, and you’ve got to be able to convert third downs and do those things and score in the red area. You have to understand coverages and leverages to be able to do that stuff.”

This and that

Outside linebacker Leonard Floyd remained in the concussion protocol.

Fox said that the medical staff has asked the coaches not to comment on Floyd’s status other than to give a medical update. He was carried off the field against the Giants on a board and has been in protocol since.

Safety Adrian Amos ( foot) returned to practice but was limited. Guard Josh Sitton ( ankle) was limited, too, while defensive end Mitch Unrein ( back) and cornerback Tracy Porter ( knee) were full participants.
