SUSPECT IN RAIL GUARD’S MURDER CAUGHT
During an undercover operation Sunday evening, police captured a man wanted in the murder of a CN railroad security guard.
Harvey Police received a tip that 24- year- old Rashad Williams would be in Chicago Heights on Sunday evening, according to city spokesman Sean Howard. Harvey police and Chicago Heights police worked together to set up several undercover stings. Williams was captured at 8: 30 p. m. without incident. He is charged with the first- degree murder of 38- year- old Tyrone Hardin.
On Saturday, Harvey Mayor Eric J. Kellogg put up a reward for information about Williams. That was the “key ingredient” in getting the right people to call in with tips, Howard said.
Michele Hardin, Tyrone’s sister, said the news was “bittersweet,” but now she can begin to heal, according to Howard, who spoke to her over the phone.
Williams, of East Hazel Crest, will appear in bond court on Monday. Sara Freund
2 cops, 4 others hurt
Six people were injured, including two CPD officers, in a five- vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in the South Side Bridgeport neighborhood.
At 2: 45 p. m., a truck and a vehicle crashed in the 1200 block of West Pershing when one vehicle lost control in the snow and crossed the center line, according to Chicago Police. Officers from the 9th District were traveling westbound on Pershing toward the accident when they swerved to avoid a pedestrian in the street. The squad car then lost control in the snow and side- swiped a vehicle that was involved in the previous accident and struck an additional two vehicles.
The two officers were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with non- life threatening injuries, police said. Two adults involved in both crashes were taken to Stroger Hospital. A man involved in the first crash was taken to Mercy Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.
