Howard scores three TDs, defense stymies Kaepernick, but victory doesn’t help draft standing
Niners quarterback Co-linKaepernick kneeled before Sunday’s game in part to honor the anniversary of Fred Hampton’s killing.
The Illinois Black Panther leader was killed at 21 during a raid of aWest Side apartment on Dec. 4, 1969. Despite police claims of being fired upon, a federal grand jury found only one of the shell casings recovered at the scene belonged to a Black Panther.
Kaepernick said he will continue to kneel during the national anthem.
“There are a lot of issues that still need to be addressed,” he said. “There’s significance being here today, seeing it’s the anniversary of the assassination of chairman Fred Hampton.”
Drop it
One week after dropping the potential game- winner in the end zone, receiver Josh Bellamy dropped two passes, including a would- be 61- yard touchdown.
However, he finished with a career- high 93 receiving yards and credited receivers coach Curtis Johnson and his teammates for encouragement.
“Matt [ Barkley], he came back, he’s like, ‘ I’mgoing to keep coming to you. I’m coming to you,’” Bellamy said. “I was like, ‘ OK, keep coming, I’mgoing to come through for you.’”
