Gov. Bruce Rauner’s choice to join the board of a city- state agency produced documents Thursday showing he no longer owes taxes to the state.

Rauner recently picked Aaron Del Mar, the Palatine Township Republican Party chairman, to represent him on the board of the Illinois International Port District, the city- state agency that runs the port of Chicago, through June 2020.

The state had filed liens against Del Mar’s Articulate Productions Inc. of Palatine for a total of more than $ 4,000 in unpaid unemployment taxes in 2012 and 2013, records show.

Asked about the liens earlier this week, Del Mar said he would have to check with his accountant to see if he had paid the tax debt for the now- dissolved business.

On Thursday, Del Mar produced a document from the state showing he’s paid what his company owed and said he made the payments last year.

Del Mar, 37, is a former chairman of the Cook County GOP, and his township organization endorsed Rauner in the 2014 Republican primary.

While Rauner skipped last summer’s Republican National Convention, Del Mar attended as an at- large delegate for President- elect Donald Trump.

If the Illinois Senate approves the appointment, Del Mar will be paid $ 20,000 a year for being on the port authority board, which meets once a month.
