Gohn, Dorothy Jane “Delph”

Age 85, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Cassopolis, Michigan, died peacefully, Monday, January 2, 2017, in her residence.

Dorothy was born November 28, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana to Ira and Mable ( Russey) Gohn. Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded by one brother, George Gohn. Delph earned a Masters of Arts in Music from DePaul University in Chicago. She held season tickets to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for over fifty years. She served as an organist and Music Director at several churches in the Chicago area. She was a longtime employee, director, and advocate for young girls at the Valentine Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago. She took a personal interest in the girls and often provided a safe haven for girls with nowhere else to go. She also worked at the McCormick Place Convention Center and the Interconti­nental Hotel, both of Chicago. She enjoyed cross stitching and knitting. She doted on her dogs, a mixed breed, Missy; a Lhasa Apso, Muffy; and a Cocker Spaniel, Freckles.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by two nieces, Nancy ( Doug) Wiseman of Granger, Indiana, Barbara ( Mike) Carter of Zephyrhill­s, Florida; one nephew, James ( Pam) Gohn of Cassopolis, Michigan; and very special friends, Jenny Anderson of Orland Park, Illinois, Jefferey ( Maureen) Zwier of Campton Hills, Illinois, Lawrence ( Brandy) Zwier of Elwood, Illinois, Linda ( Anthony) Miano of Phoenix, Arizona, and Rosalie Harrison of Orland Park, Illinois.

Family and friends will gather for celebratio­ns of Dorothy’s life in Chicago and Cassopolis at dates and times to be announced in the spring. Miss Gohn’s remains will be laid to rest near her parents in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis, Michigan.
