COP GETS 5- DAY SUSPENSION FOR TOSSING COFFEE AT BIKER

A Chicago Police officer has been suspended for five days after throwing a cup of coffee at a motorcycli­st earlier this month as the bike passed him on a busy River North street.

Footage of the Jan. 20 java toss on Hubbard Street near State surfaced online earlier this week in a video posted to Facebook by the biking group Chicago United Riders.

The camera, fixed to a rider’s helmet, captures several motorcycli­sts going east on Hubbard and approachin­g a uniformed officer who is waiting for them to pass so he can cross the street. The officer exchanges indiscerni­ble words with the rider before lobbing the beverage at him.

Police officials opened an investigat­ion after learning about the video, and Ofc. Robert Markvart accepted a five- day suspension, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. Mitchell Armentrout

1 dead, 3 injured in West Town crash

One person was killed and three others were injured in a crash Saturday afternoon in West Town, authoritie­s said.

A 19- year- old man was driving west on Hubbard in a Jeep Grand Cherokee about 1: 35 p. m. near the 400 block of North Ashland when they blew a stop sign and struck a Toyota Camry traveling north on Ashland, according to Chicago Police. Impact from the crash sent both vehicles onto Hubbard.

The 58- year- old man driving the Camry was pronounced dead on the scene at 1: 49 p. m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The man who was driving the Jeep, along with a 25- year- old man and a 19- year- old man who were passengers in it, were taken to Stroger Hospital to be treated for non- life threatenin­g injuries.

The Jeep’s driver was taken into custody and charges were pending, police said.

Man shot to death at Goose Island gas station

A 25- year- old man was shot to death early Saturday in the Goose Island neighborho­od on the Near West Side.

About 1: 40 a. m., Kentrell Thompson was sitting in a vehicle at a gas station in the 1200 block of North Halsted when someone fired several shots at the vehicle, according to Chicago Police. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Police said the man was a documented gang member.

Woman fatally struck at Lincoln Square car wash

A woman was struck and killed by a car Saturday morning at a carwash in the North Side Lincoln Square neighborho­od, according to Chicago Police.

About 9: 50 a. m., a 56- yearold man drove a Volkswagen Golf through the closed overhead door of a carwash in the 5400 block of North Damen, police said.

Passion Overstreet, 28, of Fuller Park, was inside the carwash and struck by the door and the car, and pinned underneath, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

2 charged in ID theft scheme at Deer Park Apple store

Alexander J. Soto, 25, of Yonkers, New York, Diamand D. Reid, 22, of Roseville, Michigan, are facing charges after they tried to charge thousands of dollars’ worth of products to others’ AT& T accounts at a north suburban Apple store.

On Friday evening, deputies responded to the Apple store at 30530 N. Rand Rd. in Deer Park and found Soto and Reid tried to gain access to others’ AT& T accounts while at the store, according to the sheriff’s office. They then tried to bill more than $ 3,000 worth of Apple products to the accounts.
