• Rebeca Perrone, indigent coordinator for the Cook County medical examiner’s office, works to find the family members of dead people whose bodies are unclaimed. • About half of the bodies Perrone deals with eventually are claimed by family members. • Family members have 30 days to pick up a body. After that, the county cremates the body. The ashes are then available for pickup, but there is a $ 100 fee. Less than one in four of the bodies the county cremates get claimed.
