The Wells Street bridge over the Chicago River was stuck open for nearly an hour this morning. Elevated train traffic was disrupted. The cause for the delay was flooding of the electrical mechanism by melting snow and ice.
An effort was made today to settle the strike of grocery clerks working for Jewish grocers on the Southwest Side. A meeting was to be held between the consul for the grocers and the Union organizer. Workers want a weekly salary of $ 16 and a 60- hour work week. Strikers say they have been working 72 hours per week.
