Mom allegedly shot son at Lawndale family party

A mother has been charged with shooting her son early Saturday during a family gathering in the Lawndale neighborho­od on the West Side.

Angeline Minniefiel­d, 43, faces one felony count each of attempted first- degree murder and aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, according to Chicago Police.

Minniefiel­d was at a family party about 12: 45 a. m. in an apartment in the 1400 block of South Avers when she got into an argument with a 21- year- old man, police said. She pulled out a gun and shot the man in the neck. Sources confirmed he is Minniefiel­d’s son.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

Minniefiel­d, who lives on the same block as the shooting, was arrested at the scene and charged.

Woman, 51, shot during robbery in Austin

A 51- year- old woman was shot during a robbery Sunday in the Austin neighborho­od on the West Side.

She was shot in both legs about 6: 45 p. m. in the 4700 block of West Erie, Chicago Police said. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Woman tells cop she was driving to ‘ sober up’

A woman charged with driving under the influence on Friday night in west suburban Riverside told a police officer she was driving to a fast food restaurant to “sober up.”

The officer spotted 25- year- old Katherine L. Muhlenbruc’s 2000 Volkswagen about 4: 15 p. m. when it crossed the center lane while traveling north in the 3600 block of Harlem Avenue, Riverside police said. She was pulled over near Harlem and Ogden avenues and told the officer she was coming from a bar in Darien and had done nothing wrong.

Muhlenbruc, of Franklin Park, told the officer she was driving to a White Castle in Berwyn to “sober up,” police said. She failed a roadside sobriety check, and a breath test determined her blood alcohol content was 0.115.

Muhlenbruc told police she was not drunk and would have sobered up eventually if she continued to drive, police said.

Robberies in Lake View

Police are warning about a series of armed robberies this month in the North Side Lake View neighborho­od.

Multiple men have approached victims walking on the street, displayed or implied that they had a handgun and robbed the victims, according to Chicago Police. The robberies occurred: † At 6 a. m. Jan. 21 in the 800 block of West Newport;

† At 1: 15 a. m. Jan. 22 in the 3100 block of North Racine;

† At 7: 20 p. m. Jan. 23 in the 3200 block of North Halsted; and

† At 3: 30 a. m. Jan. 26 in the 900 block of West Cornelia.

The suspects are a group of 18- to 25- year- old black men between 5- 5 and 6- 0 tall, weighing 150 to 180 pounds, police said. They have worn black or dark- colored hooded sweatshirt­s, and two of them had red or white lettering on the sweatshirt­s.

Man, 52, killed after car falls off jack

A 52- year- old Arlington Heights man was killed Saturday after the car he was fixing in his driveway fell off its jack and onto him.

George Schober, of the 300 block of North Pine Avenue, was pronounced dead at 4: 14 p. m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Arlington Heights police Sgt. Gary Kaminsky said Schober apparently was working on a vehicle’s brakes and had lifted it up using a scissor jack. It appears the car fell off the jack, Kaminsky said. It was not clear how long Schober was trapped under the vehicle.

Woman critically injured in I- 80 wrong- way crash

A woman who was driving the wrong way on I- 80 was critically injured in a crash Sunday near southwest suburban Minooka.

She was driving east in the westbound lanes about 3: 10 a. m. when her vehicle crashed head- on into a semi truck near Ridge Road, according to Illinois State Police.

The woman was taken in critical condition to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said. The semi driver was not injured.
