The Indianapolis Colts hired former Bears scout and director of pro scouting Chris Ballard as their general manager Sunday. The Colts announced the move on their website.

Ballard, who was with the Bears from 2001 to 2012, has spent the last four seasons as director of player personnel and director of football operations for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Colts hired Ballard a little more than a week after owner Jim Irsay fired Ryan Grigson and after six candidates interviewed for the job.

Multiple outlets reported the San Francisco 49ers will hire safety- turned- broadcaster John Lynch as their GM to replace Trent Baalke. Lynch reportedly will get a six- year contract.
