Warmth sets record high for 3rd day, not over yet

Chicago’s streak of unseasonab­le warm weather broke record- high temperatur­es for the third consecutiv­e day on Sunday.

Temperatur­es reached a high of 69 degrees at 1: 56 p. m. at O’Hare Airport, according to the National Weather Service. The previous record high for Feb. 19 was 65 degrees in 1930.

Temperatur­es on Saturday reached 70 degrees, breaking the previous record high of 62 degrees that was set on Feb. 18, 1981. Saturday also marked the fourth time since 1871 that Chicago has reached 70 degrees in February, according to the weather service.

Friday’s pleasant weather broke a record set more than a century earlier when the high reached 67 degrees, the weather service said. The previous record of 60 degrees was set on Feb. 17, 1880.

The spring- like weather was expected to last through much of the week, according to the weather service. After an expected cold front Monday night into Tuesday morning, Chicago could see highs in the 60s on Tuesday and 60s to low 70s on Wednesday. Sun- TimesWire

Off- duty correction­al officer shot in Englewood

An off- duty Cook County correction­al officer was shot Saturday night in the South Side Englewood neighborho­od.

At 8: 37 p. m., the 36- yearold was standing in front of a home in the 7300 block of South Aberdeen when two males emerged from a vacant lot nearby and fired shots in his direction, according to Chicago Police. The shooters then ran away.

Hewas shot in the right leg and taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the man is a correction­al officer who was off- duty at the time. No one was in custody. Jacob Wittich

Man shot on Dan Ryan

A man who was a passenger in a vehicle driving on the Dan Ryan Expy. was shot Saturday night on the South Side.

The man was shot in the chest about 10: 35 p. m. while sitting in the vehicle traveling north on I- 90/ 94 near 43rd Street, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver took the man to St. Bernard Hospital, police said. He was transferre­d to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

All inbound local lanes of the expressway were closed to traffic between 47th Street and Pershing Road until shortly before 12: 30 a. m. Sunday, police said. Sun- TimesWire

Man shot in Englewood

A 32- year- old man was shot Sunday in the Englewood neighborho­od on the South Side.

He was shot in the buttocks by an unknown person at 4: 59 p. m. in the 6400 block of South Sangamon, Chicago Police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said. Matthew Hendrickso­n

Mandies at work, trapped between heavy machinery

A southwest suburban man died Thursday afternoon in a workplace accident in Rockdale.

Robert L. Dykes, 55, was pronounced dead at 12: 17 p. m. at his job in the 100 block of Connell Avenue in Rockdale, according to the Will County coroner’s office.

Dykes, who lived in Joliet, was trapped between heavy machinery, the coroner’s office said. Preliminar­y autopsy findings determined he died of multiple injuries he suffered in the workplace accident. Ashlee Rezin

Man shot during argument in Pilsen

A man was shot early Sunday in the Pilsen neighborho­od on the South Side.

The 30- year- old was getting out of a vehicle about 2: 50 a. m. in the 1500 block of West 18th Street when he began arguing with another male in the alley, according to Chicago Police. The argument escalated, and the man was shot in the right leg.

Man shot, takes himself to hospital

A man was shot Sunday in the Grand Crossing neighborho­od on the South Side.

The 38- year- old got into an argument at 5: 29 p. m. with someone inside a dark colored SUV in the 7400 block of South Kenwood, Chicago Police said. The person in the SUV pulled out a gun and shot him in the buttocks. He took himself to Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. No one was in custody.
