Brummel, Arthur “Art”

-

Passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at his home in Millbrook, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 11, 1927 in Aurora, IL, the son of Andrew and Helen ( Kammes) Brummel. Art was the oldest son in his family of 12. He was raised on the family farm in Warrenville. Art loved farming and especially horses and machinery. He was also a skilled plumber and a member of the plumbers union for many years. Art met the love of his life, Rita, while attending a dance at "Long’s Barn" in Kaneville. The two were married in 1955 and lived in Naperville, until their love of farming drove them to Sugar Grove to start their own farm in 1961. Art and Rita raised cattle and crops and even operated their business, "Brummel Backhoe Service", from the Sugar Grove farm. This is also where they raised their five children, Jane, Ron, Sandy, Connie, and Rick. Art loved to be with family, friends and the community. Art enjoyed boating and water skiing in a boat he built himself. He was a member of a boat club for years. He loved riding horses and tinkered with driving horse carts as well. He loved riding his yellow four- wheeler. He and Rita enjoyed growing and selling pumpkins in the fall and he could always be found attending a local farm or machinery auction. Art never really retired, but he moved to his current home in Millbrook in 2008. Even though he was always busy and could never stay in one place for long, Art would never miss a chance to attend an event that his grandchildren or greatgrandchildren were participating in. He was so very proud of them and thoroughly enjoyed every truck pull, motorcycle race, rodeo, horse show and school event that he was invited to. Art always had a positive attitude toward life and made sure to live life to the fullest. Art made a lasting impression on many people and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Brummel of Newark, IL; his children, Jane ( Jim) Alabastro of Plano, IL, Ron Brummel ( Stephanie) of Hinckley, IL, Sandy ( Tim) Schramer of Maple Park, IL, Connie ( Al) Bergquist of Troxel, IL, and Rick ( Patricia) Brummel of Sugar Grove, IL; his grandchildren, Michelle ( John) Stewart of Sheridan, IL, Lee ( Natalie) Schramer of Maple Park, IL, Kevin Schramer ( Heather) of Naples, FL, Angela Schramer of Maple Park, IL, and Austin Brummel of Hinckley, IL; greatgrandchildren, Millie, Maggie, and Ellie Stewart and Landon Schramer; his siblings, Millie Wolsfeld of Yorkville, IL, Geraldine Klenda of Denver, CO, Irvin ( Sandy) Brummel of Geneva, IL, and Janice ( Sal) Ferreri of Scottsdale, AZ; his sisters- in- law, Jean Brummel of Elkhorn, WI, Dolly ( Robert) Steinhouse, of Geneva, IL and Margie Swertzer of WI; as well as many nieces and nephews.
