Reports: Rangers’ Odor gets 6- year extension

-

Multiple media outlets Saturday reported the Texas Rangers reached agreement with second baseman Rougned Odor on a six- year, $ 49.5 million contract extension.

The Rangers didn’t make an official announcement, but the sides have been working on the deal for much of spring training.

Odor, 23, is entering his fourth season with the Rangers. He played in 150 games last season and hit .271 with 33 home runs, 88 RBI, a .296 on- base percentage and a .502 slugging percentage.

Defensively, he had the lowest fielding percentage among Ameri- can League second basemen but was involved in the most double plays.

Indians’ Chisenhall out 3 days

Cleveland Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall will be out for at least three days after suffering a sprained right shoulder when he crashed into a wall while chasing a fly ball Friday against the Cubs.

‘‘ He’ll be down three days, no activity,’’ manager Terry Francona said. ‘‘ He will just get treatment. After that third day, we’ll have a much better idea which direction that thing goes.’’

In other Indians news, second baseman Jason Kipnis, who had been shut down for two weeks with soreness in his right shoulder, resumed baseball activity.

Red Sox’ Price plays catch

Boston Red Sox left- hander David Price was able to take part in a brief game of catch, a small sign of progress for his ailing pitching elbow. But manager John Farrell said there’s still no timetable for Price’s return.

Price, 31, is entering the second year of a seven- year, $ 217 million contract. He felt discomfort in the elbow the day after pitching two innings of a simulated game Feb. 28. He left camp March 3 to meet with Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Neal El Attrache, who recommended rest rather than surgery.

Royals’ Duffy to start opener

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said left- hander Danny Duffy will be the Opening Day starter April 3 against the Minnesota Twins.

Duffy started last season in the Royals’ bullpen before becoming their best starter. He was 12- 3 with a 3.51 ERA in 2016.
