Bryan captures 1st tour win
Wesley Bryan earned his first PGA Tour title by rallying to win the RBC Heritage in his home state Sunday, closing with a 4- under- par 67 to notch a one- stroke victory over Luke Donald in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Bryan, a native of South Carolina who played college golf for the Gamecocks, was four shots off the lead at the start of the round but moved into contention with four consecutive birdies on the front nine. He took the lead with a birdie on the 15th hole and completed 72 holes at 13- under 271 to become the first South Carolinian to win the state’s lone PGA Tour event.
Donald closed with a 3- under 68 in his latest close call at Harbour Town Golf Links. It was his fifth second- place finish at the course since 2009.
Edoardo Molinari sank a two- foot par putt on the first hole of a playoff against Paul Dunne, who missed a six- footer, to win the Trophee Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco, for his first European Tour title in seven years. He last won on the tour at the Johnnie Walker Championship in 2010.
Molinari closed with a 5- under 68 and Dunne with a 1- under 72 to finish 72 holes of regulation tied at 9- under 283.
TENNIS Johnson prevails in Houston
Fourth- seeded Steve Johnson fought through late cramps to win the U. S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, outlasting eighth- seeded Thomaz Bellucci 6- 4, 4- 6, 7- 6 ( 7- 5) in Houston.
Johnson won his second career ATP Tour title. He alsowon a grasscourt title last summer in Nottingham, England.
AUTO RACING Vettel triumphs in Bahrain
Sebastian Vettel held off a charging Lewis Hamilton to win the Bahrain Grand Prix in Sakhir by about seven seconds. Hamilton was closing the gap on Vettel on every lap down the stretch but ultimately ran out of time. Pole- winner Valtteri Bottas finished third.
