Heart procedure sidelines Bochy

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy had a minor heart procedure Monday in San Diego and will miss the team’s two- game series against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Bench coach RonWotus will manage in his place.

The Giants said Bochy, 62, had been complainin­g of discomfort and had a procedure called an ablation to fix his heart- rhythm problems. He is resting at home and is expected to rejoin the team Friday.

‘‘ All good. Ready to roll,’’ Bochy said in a text message to the Associated Press.

Bochy previously had a heart procedure to insert two stents in February 2015.

Mitch Haniger broke up a combined no- hit bid with a one- out double against Kyle Barracloug­h in the ninth inning of the visiting Miami Marlins’ victory against the SeattleMar­iners.

Wei- Yin Chen ( 2- 0) didn’t allow a hit in seven innings before giving way to Brad Ziegler, who pitched a hitless eighth. Barracloug­h got the first out of the ninth before Haniger’s hit, then retired the next two batters to complete the one- hitter.

Reds 9, Orioles 3

Adam Duvall hit his first career grand slam, and 40- year- old Bronson Arroyo earned his first majorleagu­e victory in almost three years as the host Cincinnati Reds walloped the Baltimore Orioles.

Arroyo ( 1- 2) allowed three runs in five innings to notch his first victory since June 15, 2014, when he was pitching for the Arizona Diamondbac­ks. That was his last appearance before elbow and shoulder injuries kept him out of the majors until this month.

Cardinals 2, Pirates 1

Mike Leake ( 2- 1) scattered seven hits in 6⅓ innings, Dexter Fowler tripled and scored in the first and SeungHwan Oh stranded the bases loaded in the ninth as the St. Louis Cardinals slipped past the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates to put together backtoback victories for the first time this season.

Nationals 3, Braves 1

Max Scherzer ( 2- 1) allowed two hits and struck out seven in seven scoreless innings, Shawn Kelley pitched out of a bases- loaded, one- out jam in the ninth and Bryce Harper doubled twice, walked and scored a run to fuel the Washington Nationals past the host Atlanta Braves.

Phillies 6, Mets 2

Daniel Nava highlighte­d a four- run rally in the 10th inning with a two- run single, and the visiting Philadelph­ia Phillies handed the New York Mets their fourth consecutiv­e loss. Each of the Mets’ losses during their skid has been decided in the opposing team’s final at- bat.
