Man dies in fall at Wrigley

A suburban man died a day after falling over a railing while leaving Wrigley Field after Tuesday night’s game.

About 11 p. m., Richard E. Garrity fell over a railing onto his head at the ballpark at 1060 W. Addison St., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The 42- year- old Wheaton resident was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died at 3: 33 p. m. Wednesday, authoritie­s said.

The plunge happened about 45 minutes after the Cubs’ 9- 5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The fan was on his way out of the park when he fell, according to a statement from the team.

“The thoughts and prayers of our entire organizati­on are with his family during this difficult time,” the statement said.

Alabama murder suspect found living in Chicago

EUTAW, Ala. — Alabama prosecutor­s are reviving a long- dormant murder case following the arrest of a suspect who was discovered living in Chicago nearly two decades after he escaped while awaiting trial.

Donnovan Johnson, 44, was returned to Greene County on Tuesday following his arrest by authoritie­s acting on a tip.

Johnson is being charged with escape, and prosecutor­s asked a judge to let them resume court action against him in the slaying of 29- year- old Ollie Carpenter, who was shot to death in 1996. Johnson was charged in 1996 with murder and three counts of attempted murder. He escaped in June 1998 and left the state. A tip led to Johnson’s arrest on Friday in Chicago, where he was living under the assumed name of Phillip Thomas. Officials weren’t providing details about the man’s life on the run. AP

Man, 60, found stabbed to death in Chatham home

A 60- year- old man was found stabbed to death Monday morning in the South Side Chatham neighborho­od.

Antonio P. Vaughn Sr. was found with stab wounds to the neck and chest inside a home in the 500 block of East 92nd Street at 11: 15 a. m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was dead at the scene, authoritie­s said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Woman struck in hit- run, dragged under vehicle

A woman was critically injured when she was struck and dragged under a vehicle Wednesday in the West Side Austin neighborho­od.

A 28- year- old woman known to investigat­ors was involved in an argument at 5: 06 p. m. in the 300 block of North Latrobe when she got into a vehicle and struck multiple people as she drove off, Chicago Police said.

A 27- year- old woman who was struck was dragged under the vehicle and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, according to police and Chicago Fire Media. The driver was not in custody.

NU student attacked

A man groped and battered a Northweste­rn University student in an elevator Tuesday night in north suburban Evanston.

At 9: 37 p. m., police responded to an apartment building in the 1900 block of Ridge Avenue for a report of attempted sexual assault, according to Evanston police.

The victim, a 24- year- old woman, said she saw a man knocking on the entrance door to the building, police said. Thinking he lived in the building, the woman opened the door and got into the elevator with the man.

He began to grope her, police said. The woman began to scream when the man beat her up and threw her to the floor. Once the elevator opened, the man ran away with her wallet and cellphone, police said. The woman suffered scrapes to her legs but refused medical treatment.

The offender is described as a black man, 25- 30, between 6- 0 and 6- 4 and weighing 190- 230, police said. He was wearing a dark long- sleeve shirt, dark pants and carrying a backpack.

Two 16- year- old boys shot

Two 16- year- old boys were shot Wednesday morning in North Lawndale. The shooting happened about 11: 15 a. m. in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt, according to Chicago Police. One boy was in good condition, the other in serious condition.
