A Chicago West Side business pioneer passed peacefully at home on May 15, 2017 at the age of 91. Maxine operated one of Chicago’s first chicken and fish carry- out restaurant­s for more than 50 years at the corner of California and Madison. As a young woman, she D. J’d her own radio show featuring live broadcasts from one of her taverns. Over her career, she owned restaurant­s, bars and rental properties providing a safety net for her extended family and employment for many others.

She was active in civil rights and community organizati­ons including Operation PUSH and the Midwest Community Council.

Maxine was born on a plantation in the Mississipp­i Delta near the legendary Blues Crossroads. She was raised in Clarksdale and Friars Point, Mississipp­i. She came to Chicago as part of the post World War II Great Migration and started her first business in her early 20’ s with her husband Lloyd Webb and mother Maggie Douglas Ivy. Both predecease­d her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Loisine Webb Brown and her friend and companion, Clyde Mangrum. She is survived by her son, Frederick Charles Webb ( Joyce Washington) and her daughter, Attorney Ralanda Webb ( Kimary Lee).

Visitation is Friday, May 19, 3: 00 p. m. to 8: 00 p. m. Services are Saturday, May 20, Wake at 10: 00 a. m., Funeral at 11: 00 a. m. at Wallace Broadview Funeral Home, 2020 West Roosevelt Road, Broadview Illinois.
