( nee Mitchell.) Helen Irene ( late Thano), passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by the love and support of her family. She is survived by her children, Tina ( Clem) Hajjar, Peter ( Jeanette), Merri ( Sean). Helen was blessed with loving grandchild­ren, Elena, Billy, Eleni, Mia, Thano, Zoe and George. She joins her father, Peter and Mary Mitchell and is survived by her brother, George ( Mary Kay). She was a proud aunt to George, Mary, Greg, Michael and Charlie and great- aunt to many nieces and nephews both here and in Greece.

Helen was an exceptiona­lly strong, vibrant, intelligen­t and witty woman. No matter what trials befell her, she always bounced back with a mixture of grace and humor. Her strength gave others strength and she was a loyal friend to many.

Helen was a lifelong member of the SS. Constantin­e and Helen Greek Orthodox Church senior choir and director for 20 years. She was an inspiratio­nal educator who taught in the Chicago Public School system but most notably at Koraes Elementary School for many years.
