Ivy runs reverse, picks Indiana
Marist’s victory against Joliet Catholic in Week 9 gave the RedHawks their first undefeated regular season. The RedHawks are a serious contender to win the Class 8A state championship. One of Marist’s senior leaders, TJ Ivy, is having an especially busy finish to the season.
The receiver decommitted from West Virginia over the weekend.
“Sometimes plans change,” Ivy tweeted. “I did not expect to be in this situation, but I will find a new path to reach my goals. Along that path I am certain that I will find an opportunity to pursue my academic and athletic goals at a great university.”
On Monday, Ivy committed to Indiana.
“I’ve spent many hours these past few days weighing my options and I’ve come to a decision about my future,” Ivy tweeted. “With the blessing of my family, coaches and close friends I have decided to commit to Indiana.”
Ivy, a 6- 5, 220- pounder, said the last week has been a bit of a whirlwind.
“The last week or so has been pretty crazy, but [ Marist coach Ron Dawczak] has told me not to look back and I haven’t,” Ivy said. “I had a pretty good game [ against Joliet Catholic], responsible for two touchdowns.”
Ivy has good size and good hands. He likely will play tight end for the Hoosiers. For now, he’s focusing solely on Marist.
“Right now it’s crunch time in the playoffs, state or bust for us,” Ivy said.
The RedHawks are preparing for their first- round playoff game Friday against Oak Park- River Forest.
“We have matured throughout the season,” Ivy said. “And even last week I think it was a test, and we need to bring our best every week.”
There’s one particular thing Ivy has learned this year.
“Blocking is a key part of the game andwill really set you apart,” Ivy said.
Roberts draws interest
Plainfield South senior running back Sayvaun Roberts has turned heads this season and is ready to dive fully into the recruiting process.
Roberts has good size at 5- 11 and 200 pounds. He’s drawing interest from Northern Illinois, Illinois, Western Illinois and others.
“I want to find a school that fits my academic goals and provides me with life experiences that will help me grow and shape my adulthood,” Roberts said.
Roberts hopes colleges have noticed his standout season.
“I think I showed I’m an overall athlete,” he said. “That’s what coaches tell me. I can adapt to any position that is needed for the team’s success.”
Roberts is being recruited as a running back, safety or cornerback.
