Payne, Virginia M.

-

( nee McEachern) Passed away on October 27, 2017 after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia ( AML). Born March 16, 1943 to the late Donald and Marie McEachern of Homewood and Flossmoor. Survived by her devoted children, Richard Payne of Los Angeles, Kathryn Payne Porter of Park Forest; sisters, Kathryn Baker of Los Angeles, and the late Frances Pritchett of Chicago. Loving grandmother “Meemaw” of Sean, Nicholas, Christopher and Malcolm. Nieces, nephew and cousins in the Chicago area, Seattle, Las Vegas and Canada will also miss her. Virginia and her longtime partner, the late Rod Hughes, lived in Olympia Fields for many years. Her much loved rescue pets will dearly miss her. Her passion to rescue and feed homeless cats and dogs was a lifelong obsession. In the early 1970’ s, as a founding member of The South Suburban Humane Society, she used to say her eyes never missed a homeless or abused creature wandering on the streets, always making sure to get them in her car and off to the vet. Not to mention, the birds in her garden never missed a meal, even in the last months of her life. Virginia, a graduate of Loring School for Girls in Beverly ( Class of 1961) and Missouri Valley College, moved on to become a flight attendant for Continental Airlines ( based in Los Angeles). During this time, she met and married the late Richard H. Payne of Beverly. Virginia then became a successful realtor/ broker with Seay Century 21 and ReMax South Suburban in Flossmoor for over forty years. She was loved and deeply appreciated by numerous clients and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, donations to TripleRpets, PO Box 86, Western Springs, IL 60558, an organization for the rescue/ spay and neuter of homeless animals, are appreciated. ( www. tripleRpets. org)
