Packers cut Bennett, hope to recoup cash

-

The Packers waived former Bears tight end Martellus Bennett on Wednesday, citing a failure to disclose a medical condition, which allows them to attempt to recoup some of his signing bonus.

Bennett, who signed a threeyear, $ 21 million deal in March after winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots, played seven games for the Packers. He had been dealing with a shoulder injury and said late last month that he might retire at the end of the season.

In 2014, Bennett set Bears records for a tight end with 90 catches for 916 yards. He stayed away from Halas Hall the next offseason, hoping that general manager Ryan Pace would give him a more lucrative contract. A year later, he was traded to the Patriots.

Despite Zach Miller’s injury, a Bears reunion is unlikely. Bennett can be claimed off waivers Thursday.

Jones threatens Goodell deal

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has threatened to sue the NFL over a proposed contract extension for commissioner Roger Goodell, a dispute apparently sparked by star running back Ezekiel Elliott’s sixgame suspension over alleged domestic violence.

Jones also has expressed disapproval with the structure and compensation in the contract extension.

Elliott’s third legal reprieve came in an emergency stay two days before the Cowboys beat the Chiefs. Now Elliott seeks a longerlasting injunction from a threejudge panel that will hear his case Thursday in New York.

Vikings add Bridgewater to roster

The Vikings took quarterback Teddy Bridgewater off the physically unable- to- perform list. He’s on the active roster for the first time in more than 14 months, when his left knee was badly injured during prac- tice. Quarterback Sam Bradford was put on injured reserve amid continued trouble with his left knee.

Colts’ Davis upset over benching

Colts cornerback Vontae Davis is upset he was demoted because of what the team called a non- injury related matter. The two- time Pro Bowl player says he has been limited by a lingering groin injury.

Injury news

Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston consulted with Dr. James Andrews about his sore throwing shoulder. Winston will miss at least two games.

Seahawks running back Eddie Lacy ( groin) is out and Earl Thomas ( hamstring) is doubtful heading into the game Thursday night at Arizona.
