Badgers’ win puts Big Ten at 7- 0 in bowls

Alex Hornibrook threw for 258 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to Danny Davis III, and Wisconsin ( 13- 1) held Miami ( 10- 3) to 10 points in the last three quarters en route to a 34- 24 victory Saturday in the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Big Ten is 7- 0 in bowl games this season.

Hornibrook threw touchdown passes of 20 yards to Davis, 16 yards to A. J. Taylor and five yards to Davis in the second quarter and one of six yards to Davis in the fourth for the Badgers, who trailed 14- 3 after the first quarter.

Penn State 35, Washington 28

Trace McSorley threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns, Saquon Barkley ran for two more scores — including a 92- yarder — and the Nittany Lions ( 11- 2) outlasted the Huskies ( 10- 3) in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

Penn State, which led 28- 7 in the second quarter, amassed 545 yards of offense and converted 13 of 17 third downs on its way to improving to 7- 0 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Iowa State 21, Memphis 20

Allen Lazard caught 10 passes for 142 yards, including a five- yard touchdown, to help the Cyclones ( 8- 5) edge the Tigers ( 10- 3) on their home field in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee.

Iowa State was on the verge of becoming the first Football Bowl Subdivisio­n team in recorded history to play an entire season without losing a fumble before David Montgomery did so with 4: 06 left.

Mayfield update

Oklahoma quarterbac­k Baker Mayfield, who has been dealing with the flu, attended Rose Bowl media day ahead of the Sooners’ game Monday against Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
