Curry out for regular season

Warriors star Stephen Curry will miss at least three weeks because of a sprained left knee suffered in the third quarter Friday against the Hawks, meaning he will be out for the rest of the regular season.

Curry, who was in his first game back after missing the previous six with a sprained right ankle, might be back right around the start of the playoffs if all goes well in his recovery.

An MRI exam Saturday showed a Grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in the joint, and the Warriors said Curry would be re- evaluated in three weeks.

Former U- High and Illinois State player Zeke Upshaw collapsed on the court near the end of a G League game in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was rushed to the hospital. There was no immediate word about his condition.

Sale OK after being hit by liner

Red Sox left- hander Chris Sale suffered a bruised left hip when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of the Astros’ J. D. Davis in the first inning of his last spring- training tuneup. Precaution­ary X- rays showed no structural damage.

Sale fell to the ground but walked off the field under his own power and said he still expected to pitch opening day Thursday against the Rays.

Rangers minor- league coach and former major- leaguer Howard Johnson, 57, was struck just below his left eye by a line drive during a Cactus League game against the Indians and left the dugout on a stretcher.

He was taken to a hospital, but he reportedly was alert and responding to questions while being treated.

Cardinals closer Luke Gregerson will start the season on the disabled list with a strained hamstring suffered during conditioni­ng drills. Manager Mike Matheny said there is no timetable for Gregerson’s return.

Giants left- hander Madison Bumgarner had surgery to have three pins inserted into the broken pinkie on his pitching hand he suffered when he was hit by a line drive Friday and is expected to miss at least two months.

McPhee likely going to Skins

Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee, who spent three seasons with the Bears before being released last month, reportedly plans to sign with the Redskins. McPhee, who also met with the Falcons, had 14 sacks in 36 games with the Bears.

Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Kevin Kisner and Alex Noren reached the semifinals of the World Golf Championsh­ipsMatch Play in Austin, Texas. Thomas will replace Dustin Johnson as the No. 1 player in the world if he wins his semifinal.
