Gregorius stays hot at home for Yankees

HIGHLIGHTS

-

Didi Gregorius had another big game at Yankee Stadium with a tworun homer and three RBI, and Gary Sanchez homered twice to help CC Sabathia and the Yankees cruise past the Twins 8- 3.

Gregorius’ eight home runs and 23 of his 27 RBI this season have come at home. Babe Ruth ( 1921) and Alex Rodriguez ( 2007) are the only other Yankees with that many homers and RBI in the first 22 games.

Aaron Judge hit his seventh home run as the Yankees went deep four times for the second straight night. Gleyber Torres had a pair of hits and his first RBI for the Yankees, who extended their winning streak to four for the first time under new manager Aaron Boone and sent the Twins to their season- worst fifth consecutive loss.

Brewers win seventh straight

Lorenzo Cain homered and reached base four times in his return to Kauffman Stadium, Travis Shaw hit a three- run homer and the Brewers won their seventh straight with a 5- 2 victory over the Royals.

Zach Davies ( 2- 2) pitched six innings of four- hit ball. Ryan Braun had two hits, walked twice and drove in a run for the Brewers.

Angels rally, but Ohtani hit hard

Mike Trout hit his major- leagueleading 10th homer and the Angels overcame another shaky start by Shohei Ohtani to beat the Astros 8- 7, tying a team record with their 11th straight road win.

Andrelton Simmons homered twice with a career- high five RBI, connecting for a tiebreaking, threerun drive in the seventh inning.

Ohtani yielded four runs, six hits and five walks in 5⅓ innings.

Mets pick up 10th comeback win

Jay Bruce hit a tiebreaking homer in the 10th inning, Yoenis Cespedes launched a majestic, three- run shot and the Mets rallied to beat the Cardinals 6- 5.

After Bruce’s decisive drive to center field, the Cardinals claimed he missed first base and challenged. A review confirmed Bruce touched the bag, and the Mets closed it out for their 10th comeback victory of the season.

New pace- of- play rules ‘ effective’

Commissioner Rob Manfred said he is encouraged by pace- of- play changes that have limited mound visits and reduced the time between innings this season.

Manfred said the new rules have sped up games without any disruption. Mound visits without pitching changes averaged 3.79 per game through Sunday, down from 7.41 for the 2017 season.
