Mt. Carmel’s Davis garnering interest

Mount Carmel athlete Kyle Davis, who had a solid season at running back in 2017, recently picked up his first scholarship offer.

“Recruiting is going well,” Davis said. “My first offer is from Western Michigan. I can’t even tell you how excited I was about it. It just makes me want to grind harder.”

Davis, who is 6- foot, 205 pounds, has good size and speed and is expected to play a big role in Mount Carmel’s offense in 2018.

In the meantime, Davis is enjoying what the offseason and recruiting process are bringing his way.

“The best part about recruiting is that you meet all kinds of new people from different areas,” Davis said. “The flip side of it is that you can have all the offers you want, but you still have to only pick one school that is right for you.”

Davis also is planning to attend numerous summer camps.

“I’ve been hearing from Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Wyoming, Illinois State and a few others,” Davis said. “Most really want me to go to their camps. They mostly say they love my body and size and my style of play.

“I will be going to the Northwestern camp, North Central, Michigan State, Toledo and a couple more. I’m planning to go to at least five or six camps.”

Now that there are plenty of eyes on him, Davis is ready to show schools what he’s capable of this summer.

“I just want to show them that I go hard on every rep, and if I mess up, I promise you on the next rep I’ll do twice as better,” Davis said.

Davis is focused on a big senior year at a school that has a strong tradition of talented backs.

“We’re looking to win Game 1 and progress from there,” Davis said.

Raby DB Goston picks NIU

Raby junior defensive back Romel Goston committed to Northern Illinois.

“I like the energy the coaches bring, and I can see myself very comfortable working and bettering myself in the classroom and on the field in DeKalb,” Goston said. “I also love the coaching staff, and fans are showing up when I am on campus, it makes it feel just like home.”

It was also about loyalty for Goston.

“The Huskies have been in my corner since the start of my recruiting,” he said. “The defensive backs coach, Melvin Rice, and I have a strong bond coming from Chicago and playing ball. He understands where I am coming from because he’s been in my shoes, growing up here and being a student athlete.”
