Nats’Soto, 19, homers in first start

-

Juan Soto, the youngest player in the majors at 19, hit a threerun home run in the second inning of his first big- league start to help the Nationals wallop the visiting Padres 10- 2 on Monday.

A day after striking out as a pinch hitter in his debut, Soto hit an estimated 442- foot drive over the Nationals’ bullpen to highlight a five- run rally against Padres starter Robbie Erlin.

Mark Reynolds added two homers and Bryce Harper hit his National League- leading 14th for the Nationals.

Anderson gives Brewers a lift

Chase Anderson ( 4- 3) came off the disabled list to allow two runs and three hits in six innings, and the host Brewers got homers from Travis Shaw, Domingo Santana and Lorenzo Cain en route to a 4- 2 victory against the Diamondbacks, who have lost 11 of their last 12 games.

Twins spoil Gardy’s return

Logan Morrison drew a basesloaded walk to break a tie in the eighth inning, and the Twins ruined Ron Gardenhire’s first game as a manager in Minnesota since firing him after the 2014 season with a 4- 2 victory against the Tigers. Gardenhire is in his first season as the Tigers’ manager.

Torres powers Yankees

Gleyber Torres hit two of the visiting Yankees’ five homers in a 10- 5 victory against the Rangers. Torres, 21, became the second- youngest player in Yankees history with a multihomer game, trailing only Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle.
