Gardner, Torres rally Yankees past Astros

Brett Gardner tied it with his second homer of the game, a one- out, two- run drive in the ninth inning, Gleyber Torres hit a winning single in the 10th and the Yankees rallied to beat the Astros 6- 5.

The Yankees won despite making five errors— including two by Torres at second base — for the first time since 2014.

Astros starter Charlie Morton, who is 7- 0 with a 2.26 ERA and has not lost a regular- season game since Sept. 9, allowed three earned runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out 10 and walked one.

Aaron Judge hit a fifth- inning home run, which was his 71st in 234 games and tied Ryan Howard for the fastest to reach the mark.

Nationals continue to rule road

Bryce Harper hit his NL- leading 17th home run, Mark Reynolds added a solo shot and the Nationals beat the Orioles 3- 2 to extend their road winning streak to nine games.

Harper finished with three hits, and 19- year- old rookie Juan Soto had his first three- hit game for the Nationals, who have won five straight.

Manny Machado homered for the Orioles, who have lost four in a row.

Cardinals power past Brewers

Michael Wacha pitched two- hit ball for 6⅔ innings and the Cardinals, boosted by three home runs, beat the Brewers 6- 1. Harrison Bader, Matt Carpenter and Francisco Pena homered for the Cardinals. Wacha ( 6- 1), who allowed one earned run, combined with two relievers to limit the Brewers to three hits.

Ohtani to take mound again

Shohei Ohtani will make his next start on the mound for the Angels on Wednesday night against Detroit. Ohtani has not pitched since May 20 because of workload management.

Injury news

Mets Opening Day starter Noah Syndergaar­d was put on the 10- day disabled list with a strained index finger on his pitching hand.

Astros catcher Brian McCann was put on the 10- day disabled list because of right knee soreness.

Giants right- hander Jeff Samardzija was forced to leave his start against the Rockies after pitching one inning because of tightness in his pitching shoulder.

Longtime Padres voice taking leave

Ted Leitner, who has called Padres games since 1980, is taking an indefinite leave of absence to undergo treatment for kidney cancer.
