Lawyer: Black woman accused of stealing bikini at Target

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.— A lawyer for a black Detroit- area woman said Target employees falsely accused her of stealing a bikini and forced her to expose parts of her body. Attorney Jasmine Rand said Monday 20- year- old Ashanae Davis was shopping at a TargetMay 22 in Southfield. A security worker grabbed her arm, another handcuffed her and she was walked to a room, where she was told to lift her shirt and pull down her pants. Rand said employees in the room were a white man, black man and white female manager. Minneapoli­s- based Target said the woman was originally stopped because she had a swimsuit with tags in her bag that was later determined to have been purchased elsewhere. Target said the first security guard who confronted the woman has been fired. Rand said other black women with similar complaints have contacted her firm.

Rawlings sold to private equity fund

NEWYORK— The 131- year- old Rawlings Sporting Goods Co. is being sold to a private equity fund for about $ 395 million. The iconic sports gearmaker, which has outfitted children and pros alike, from Roberto Clemente to Giancarlo Stanton, is being acquired by a fund managed by Seidler Equity Partners. Major League Baseball, which relies on Rawlings for its official game ball, is a co- investor.

Lord & Taylor closings ahead

Lord & Taylor parent Hudson’s Bay Co. expects to close up to 10 of its nearly 50 Lord & Taylor stores nationwide through 2019 and is dropping plans to keep a store in the New York Fifth Avenue flagship it is selling.
