Kluber, Ramirez fuel Indians past Brewers
Corey Kluber ( 9- 2) allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings, Jose Ramirez hit his 19th home run and the Indians ended a three- game losing streak with a 3- 2 victory Tuesday against the visiting Brewers.
Kluber struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter for the fifth start in a row, a stretch of 35„ innings. He is tied with the Yankees’ Luis Severino for the American League lead in victories.
The Brewers have lost back- toback games for the first time since they lost four in a row April 26- 29.
Scherzer first to 10 victories
Max Scherzer ( 10- 1) yielded two runs and five hits and struck out 13 — including three batters on nine pitches in the sixth inning — in eight dominant innings to become the first 10- game winner in the majors as the host Nationals defeated the Rays 4- 2.
Juan Soto scored twice and Wilmer Difo drove in two runs for the Nationals, who handed the Rays their fifth consecutive loss.
Mariners’ winning streak hits five
Kyle Seager highlighted a four- run first inning with a three- run homer, James Paxton ( 5- 1) worked around nine hits to allow only one run in 7‰ innings and the visiting Mariners won their fifth game in a row with a 7- 1 victory against the Astros in a game between the top two teams in the ALWest.
Rangers release Lincecum
The Rangers released 2008 and 2009 National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum after his 30- day rehab assignment at Class AAA Round Rock. Lincecum, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since August 2016 with the Angels, had a 5.68 ERA with 10 strikeouts and nine walks in 12‰ innings.
Personnel matters
The Cardinals activated catcher Yadier Molina from the 10- day disabled list before their 7- 4 home loss to the Marlins. Molina, who hadn’t played since suffering a traumatic hematoma after he was hit in the groin by a foul tip May 5 against the Cubs, went 1- for- 4with an RBI single.
The Yankees said left- hander Jordan Montgomery ( 2- 0, 3.62 ERA) will have Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow Thursday and is expected to be out into next season.
The Rays put right- hander Chris Archer ( 3- 4, 4.24 ERA) on the 10- day disabled list with a strained abdominal muscle. It is Archer’s first time on the disabled list in his career.
