ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey’s central bank took action Monday to free up cash for banks as the country grapples with a currency crisis sparked by concerns over President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s economic policies and a trade dispute with the United States. But stocks fell further on Wall Street Monday as Turkey’s central bank was unable to stop a steep plunge in that nation’s currency, the lira, which tumbled another 7 percent on Monday.

Baltimore cop resigns after street punches, could face charge

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore police officer recorded while repeatedly punching a man in a street confrontat­ion has resigned, and investigat­ors are looking at charging him with second-degree assault. The video recorded Saturday begins with the officer standing in front of a black man who has his back to a wall. The officer, who is also black, can be seen shoving the man in the chest before the officer starts throwing punches.

14-year-old running for Vt. governor

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Ethan Sonneborn, 14, of Bristol, Vermont, is one of four Democrats seeking the party nomination for governor in the fall. Sonneborn is legally on the Tuesday primary ballot. “I think Vermonters should take me seriously because I have practical progressiv­e ideas, and I happen to be 14, not the other way around,” Sonneborn said in a recent televised gubernator­ial forum.

Man flies plane into his own house

PAYSON, Utah — A Utah man flew a small plane into his own house early Monday just hours after he had been arrested for assaulting his wife in a nearby canyon where the couple went to talk over their problems, authoritie­s said. The pilot, Duane Youd, died. His wife and a child who were in the home survived. The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. in Payson.

Sean Young incident investigat­ed

NEW YORK — Actress Sean Young was under investigat­ion Monday in New York after the alleged theft of two laptops belonging to a production company that fired her from a new film she was directing. New York police said no charges have been filed against the 58-year-old star of the 1980s film “Blade Runner.” However, detectives are still looking into the matter.
